A growing number of people are wishing to combine their vacations with doing something fulfilling, this can often mean wishing to help those less fortunate. In addition charities around the world are always looking for inspiring and innovative ways of attracting people to assist with fundraising. Charity cycle challenges in Cambodia are a perfect way to combine the two.
Sometimes organisations that arrange charity cycle rides are criticised over how much of the money raised actually reaches its intended cause and is not swallowed up in admin, operational costs, and profits. Of course organisers would like as much of the money raised to benefit the good cause, yet organising cycling events in foreign countries can be very complex. As such specialist adventure travel companies are often contracted to make and operate all the arrangements. These specialist travel companies are often based in the same developed country as the organising charity and not based in the country where the charity cycle challenge will take place. In terms of organising a charity event in developing countries such as Cambodia, making use of a travel company based in a developed country inevitably results in increased costs as developed country overheads and profits need to be covered. In addition some of these specialist travel companies use a ‘chain’ of regional and local suppliers or ‘middlemen’, further increasing costs. All these increased costs are taking money away from the intended good cause.
This is where Asia Adventures can make the difference! We are a Cambodian registered tour operator fully based in Cambodia and are specialists in arranging cycle tours. We organises cycle tours throughout the country and have our own fleet of well maintained mountain bikes. Our charity cycle ride clients include such well-known organisations as; Oxfam, CARE, Muscular Dystrophy, the Women's International Assoc. as well as smaller lesser known ones, with group sizes ranging from 10 to 45.
Asia Adventures’ costs are undoubtedly less than our ‘western’ contemporaries plus we make all arrangements directly, no ‘middlemen’ are used. This results in the charity event organiser being offered a much more competitive ‘per person’ cost. The benefits of this are i) the price the participants pay is significantly less, maybe attracting more participants, and / or ii) a significantly larger proportion of the money paid / raised by the participants can go directly to the very worthwhile cause rather than to a chain of suppliers.
Asia Adventures is one of the leading ‘Responsible Tourism’ operators in Cambodia (for more details click here), and works closely with many local NGO’s, ‘Good Cause’ organisations and local communities, thus our ethos is perfectly matched to charity fundraising events. We can also arrange visits to various 'Good Cause' projects on route which further enhances the overall cycling experience.
