Raffles Hotel Le Royal
Grade: Deluxe
The very name Raffles evokes white-washed walls, beautiful arches and imposing columns, lush gardens and most of all old-world colonial splendour. The Raffles Le Royal in Phnom Penh has all of the above. It is the finest colonial style hotel in Cambodia, indeed amongst the best in South East Asia. It is located in the heart of Phnom Penh and all the rooms are thoughtfully finished with art deco style furnishings and exclusive Cambodian art work decorating the walls. The hotel is set around a picturesque garden courtyard and attractive swimming pools, and boasts fine restaurants and bars offering a range of cuisines - and cocktails are a must at the world-famous Elephant Bar!
Our opinion: The most romantic and atmospheric hotel in Phnom Penh, certainly one of the most pleasant hotels you are likely to experience.

Amanjaya
Grade: Deluxe
The Amanjaya is definitely the flashest place to stay on Sisowath Quay. Set in an old converted riverside building next to the beautiful Wat Ounalom this stylish boutique hotel features 21 intimate and spacious suite rooms, which have been designed to present a unique and tasteful contemporary Asian interior. The rosewood floors and stone finish are chic, with the ambiance being warmed by local textiles and Khmer artifacts. All rooms have private balconies overlooking the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers, with the palatial corner Deluxe Panoramic Suites having wonderful wrap-a-round balconies. Due to its popularity you need to book early to avoid disappointment!
Our opinion: An excellent character choice in the heart of the city. However, take note that there is no pool and only double bed suite rooms are available.

InterContinental Phnom Penh
Grade: Deluxe
The InterContinental is instantly recognised as the tallest building in Phnom Penh and was the first 5-star hotel in the city. The InterCon has all the facilities and high professional standards you would expect from an internationally renown hotel chain, such as high standards of comfort and fine dining. The hotel has clean, modern lines with delicate ancient Khmer motifs and an expansive lobby with marble columns and bas reliefs in the style of Angkor Wat. The rooms are decorated with beautiful local art, and have bathrooms of polished Italian marble, deep soaking tubs and separate showers. For the energetic there is a quality Clark Hatch gym and swimming pool.
Our opinion: Not the best located of Phnom Penh's hotels, however due to its hight the city view rooms have unrivalled vistas across this low rise city.

Himawari Hotel
Grade: Deluxe
The Himawari is one of the best riverside hotels in Phnom Penh with the river view rooms giving excellent panoramas of river life at the confluence of three rivers; the mighty Mekong, the Tonle Sap, and the Bassac. The rooms are elegant, spacious, well appointed apartment style, with large wardrobes, plush large bathrooms, modern kitchenettes, well polished wooden floors, as well as wireless broadband internet access. For those missing their sporting pastimes the Himawari has a nice swimming pool, a well appointed gym, and two tennis courts. It is also located close to the Royal Palace, National Museum, and the riverside's eclectic mix of bars and restaurants.
Our opinion: The rooms are most elegant with an international feel, and don't miss the oysters, regarded as the freshest and tastiest in Phnom Penh.

Phnom Penh Hotel
Grade: First Class
Situated in the heart of the city, the well appointed Phnom Penh Hotel sits on the bustling Monivong Boulevard near a picturesque park and Wat Phnom. The hotel is a tranquil sanctuary of affordable high class and service, having interiors which are a combination of contemporary refinement and practicality. Both city and pool view rooms have fine wood detail and crown mouldings to accent the stylish modern décor, with subtle traditional Khmer finishes. An added bonus is that any room above a Standard comes with a Jacuzzi tub! After a hard day’s sightseeing if you still have excess energy to burn the Phnom Penh Hotel has a very well equipped gym and table tennis area.
Our opinion: Popular with Cambodian celebrities, you may find yourself rubbing shoulders with Preap Sovath, Cambodia's answer to Justin Timberlake!

Hotel Cambodiana
Grade: First Class
Being over 15 years old with a distinctive Russian / Khmer architectural style the Hotel Cambodiana has been fully refurbished for 2007. Your first views of this striking building are with the well kept gardens, fragrant frangipani trees, and water features in the foreground. However, the real delight of the Hotel Cambodiana are the views from the spacious decked restaurant and pool to the rear of the hotel, stretching out over the confluence of the mighty Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Bassac rivers where you can lose track of time as you watch the everchanging waterscape. The hotel is located close to the eclectic Sisowath Quay as well as the Royal Palace and National Museum.
Our opinion: Having been given a new lease of life in 2007 the Hotel Cambodiana is regaining its reputation as one of the best hotels in the city.
