FCC Angkor
Grade: First Class
The stylish art deco 1960’s design of the FCC Angkor is home to a chic, boutique hideaway in an excellent location overlooking the Siem Reap river. The FCC strives (rather successfully) for a Zen-like marriage of environmental harmony, heritage conservation, and modern luxury. The very essence of the FCC Angkor is reflected in its naming of each room after traditional Cambodian herbs and spices. The generously proportioned rooms are abundant with natural light and sophisticatedly appointed with broadband internet, flat screen TVs and DVD players. The neutral tones are accentuated by the textures of authentic traditional Cambodian fabrics and ornaments. All rooms have a terrace overlooking the inviting pool or shady aromatic gardens. The Visaya Spa is not only a true delight but also unique as its treatments use only natural ingredients including fresh herbs and aromatic flowers grown in the hotel’s garden. The FCC Angkor is involved in various community projects, including supporting the development of grass roots Cambodian soccer, and also has a commitment to become Cambodia’s first carbon neutral hotel. A member of the exclusive Design Hotels collective.
Our opinion: An excellent and stylish hotel option, with a superb location, for those who want contemporary refinement whilst in Siem Reap. |

Shinta Mani
Grade: Medium
Shinta Mani, is derived from Sanskrit and means ‘The gem that provides everything one desires’ and that perfectly describes this intimate, friendly 18 room boutique hotel located in the heart of the old French Quarter. All the rooms are stylishly appointed and are conveniently located near the pool or library area. The offerings at the Shinta Mani restaurant are mouth watering; excellent Khmer, Asian, and international fusion cuisine utilising local, organic ingredients and served in elegant surroundings. Despite all this luxury the Shinta Mani is a not-for-profit hotel. Since 2004 the profits have been used to fund the hotel’s Institute of Hospitality, a vocational training centre for local disadvantaged youths, after receiving their free training these empowered young adults can find fulfilling jobs within Cambodia’s booming hospitality industry. In addition to this the Shinta Mani is extremely progressive with its community work, providing wells and clean drinking water, distributing second hand sewing machines, proving poor families with breeding pigs, and bicycles for children to access school. Guests are more than welcome to visit these villages to experience the need at first hand.
Our opinion: An execellent choice for those visitors who want to give something back to Cambodia and help support some very worthy causes.
